Jeffrey Wright. Born in Newcastle in 1955 he developed a love of painting and drawing at an early age. His father, who was a member of the NSW Police Force, led the Wright family to many different NSW towns before settling in Griffith.
Jeffrey’s love of the Australian landscape was engendered from his innate knowledge of the Australian bush at this early age.
Like many young artists Jeffrey developed an early interest in abstract painting but came under the tutelage of Lance McNeill who invited him into the world of Realism. In 1991 he won the McNeill Academy of Realist Art Gold medallion Award for Excellence.
Jeffrey realised that many of the qualities he used in his abstract work enhanced his ability to depict Realism with an emphasis oncolour harmony and tonal balance. His work is fresh and alive with a lateral mindset. Jeffrey is an intuitive painter
whose subjects are infused with light and movement and are truly evocative. His attention to detail and the effects of light bring together a painting that shows his passion for his subject. Jeffrey has had, to date, eight solo exhibitions in Sydney, Wagga Wagga and Griffith. he has won awards throughout NSW with his work being represented in many private and corporate collections throughout Australia and overseas.
